This document explains the core concepts you need to understand to be able to use the yospaceCDS Content Management console. It covers the following topics:
A Media Item is a single piece of video content. It can be a member of more than one Content Group, and can be ingested into yospaceCDS via manual upload, or automatically via an FTP or RSS Input Feed.
A Content Group is a collection of Media Items. It is a logical means of grouping Media Items. A Content Group receive its Media Item contents by manual upload, or being fed by one or more Input Feeds. A Content Group's contents can be published using an Output Feed.
Content Groups can be populated with Media Items representing content or Media Items representing advertising. A mechanism of Campaigns and Promotions allows you to associate Content Groups containing content videos with Content Groups containing advertising videos.
A Source Group is a special type of Content Group that the contents of which cannot be removed by users with standard privileges. They are intended to be used in workflows where Source Groups are being fed by a variety of different Input Feeds and where editors choose content within these Source Groups to publish into regular Content Groups. The Content Groups are then published via an Output Feed. In this scenario, editors have complete control over which content is published where, regardless of the original source of the content.
yospaceCDS can automatically ingest video content using Input Feeds. There are two main types of Input Feed currently supported: RSS Input Feeds and FTP Input Feeds.
An RSS Input Feed will periodically poll a Standard MRSS (more types may be supported at a later date) and fetch any new items from the feed, populating one or more Content Groups as it does so. It is possible to set policies on how or when items are deleted in Content Groups fed by an RSS Input Feed.
For more information, see Setting Up RSS Input Feeds
An FTP Input Feed allows you to upload content into yospaceCDS using the standard FTP protocol. In order for content to be successfully uploaded into yospaceCDS, it must be associated with metadata information. yospaceCDS determines associated metadata by reading XML files uploaded with the video content and populating designated Content Groups with files uploaded it can match. There are variety of different XML file formats supported.
For more information, see Setting Up FTP Feeds
The contents of a Content Group can be published as an RSS feed by using an Output Feed. There are a variety of different feed formats to choose from, such as podcast, Nokia Video Centre, and standard MRSS feed. It is possible to have multiple Output Feeds associated to a single Content Group, allowing you to publish the same collection of content to multiple platforms simultaneously.
For more information, see Setting Up RSS Output Feeds
A Campaign is a collection of Promotions (see below). The purpose of Campaigns is to allow you to put Promotions in logical groupings that make administration easier. For example, you might want to group Promotions together by brand or client. Because Campaigns can be made active or inactive, it is possible to control the state of its member Promotions in a single click.
For more information, see Setting Up Advertising
A Promotion allows you to associate the contents of a Content Group with the advertising contents of another, limited by a number of impressions, geography and time period. Promotions are grouped together by Campaigns, and can be made active or inactive individually or as a whole group.
